It’s being reported that Petland, a national pet retailer, is planning to phase out the sale of dogs and cats in its stores across Canada.

The stores will continue to provide space for various adoption agencies looking to find permanent homes for rescued animals. This is wonderful news and could be a win-win-win for the retailer, the agencies and the animals.
It’s a small step, though, in tackling what is increasingly the real problem: people buying pets via the Internet, which typically come from puppy mills and backyard breeders.
Knowing where that adorable kitten or pup really comes from is the first thing you need to consider as a responsible pet owner.
